Man is very ungrateful. Allah opens the door of His mercy on him and he runs away from this mercy. Allah rewards His blessings upon him and he denies these blessings. Darkness is more desirable than light. That person who gives blessings seems to be calling someone else. This is shirk and the one who does shirk does not escape the wrath of Allah. The Golden Bull is a beautiful story on the same subject.
